Four spots on Santorini that almost nobody visits, and every one of them is fully open to the public. The caldera path and the Oia sunset queue are not the whole island. Pyrgos' medieval kasteli sits above Fira with 360-degree rooftop views and almost no one on its flagstone lanes. Skaros Rock above Imerovigli carries the remains of Santorini's most powerful Venetian fortress, reachable in 30 minutes on a marked trail. A whitewashed chapel built into a volcanic sea cave waits at the base of Amoudi Bay's cliffs. And near Akrotiri, Mesa Pigadia preserves Bronze Age cisterns from the same era as the famous excavation site nearby, with no English signage and almost no visitors. October is the right time for all four. Smaller crowds, calmer seas at Amoudi, golden light on the Pyrgos rooftops, and the Skaros ridge entirely to yourself.
