Santorini has more than caldera views and Oia sunsets. These three spots prove it. Three genuinely overlooked corners of the island, each worth the detour. At the crown of Pyrgos village, a Byzantine castle sits almost entirely unvisited. Most people pass through only to reach a winery. Walk up from the plateia in 10 to 15 minutes and you have 360-degree island views without a single tour group. Above Perissa's black-sand beach, the ancient site of Mesa Vouno crowns a dramatic volcanic headland. The marked path starts at the southern end of the beach, entry is free, and the climb takes you to Bronze Age remains that almost no beach-day visitor ever thinks to look up at. At Santorini's southwestern tip, the Akrotiri lighthouse faces due west over open Aegean water. A fully paved road gets you there by car or scooter. Arrive 30 minutes before sunset and you have the kind of view Oia charges a dinner reservation for, with no one else around. Save this post before your trip.
